In today’s episode of Pop17 I was lucky enough to interview some of the most awesome video bloggers at SXSW. Lisa Nova, Zadi Diaz, Kroosh, Clarence Smith Jr., Lux Alptraum, and Violet Blue.

Love the way how you nod your head while they’re answering. Cute hair-style too.
Thanks. Do I dare ask where you got your sn from?
p.s. it’s the princess Leah hair style
That’s just what my name is. It’s different than what you think it’s pronounced as.
And yea, the hair style reminded me of that episode from FRIENDS.
Great video. Will definitely be there next time. Epi-fu is awesome!
Great episode! Gave me some new bloggers to check out. And I like the talk about Internet vs. traditional celebs. :-)
@Becky C, thanks! What’s your take on the word celebrity online? Can you think of a better word? I like Violet Blue’s comment about it. Internet people are so much more interactive.
I like your show. I am learning alot about blog videos and the industry.
Thanks for staying with interesting ladies…(1 man) internet is not something from my generation, but so fascinating to be a part of.
I wish I had more years to see where it evolves to…….keep up the good work…Patti
Yeah, I think you are the new wave of internet stardom. However, you differ from Lisa Nova because you offer something that is real and unique unlike a lot of fame created on YouTube which is a form of a cheap laugh. Your video blogging style has evolved so much which makes you well known, the constant hum from Tech Crunch doesn’t hurt either.
yes, really love the hair style. cute!
Sarah-
Great video. And you are an internet celebrity in your own right. I’m a little surprised you reveal this, but I just checked the stats on one of your recent videos, and it had about 3600 views. That means just ONE of your little 3 minute videos has ALREADY consumed 20 hours of people’s time. You have a following!
I think you stumped one person (was it Lisa) with your “vague” question. I would have been stumped by the way you worded that one too. But I loved the way the video evolved.
One other thing: The best thing you did, I think, was allow people to talk about their site. I don’t know about Epic-Fu. Now I will check it out.
Hey, here’s a topic for you… I would love to see snippets from a bunch of semi-internet-famous people, asking them one or two questions: What site can’t you live without? What’s the Internet’s best kept secret? (I want leads on other things to check out!)
Great work! Let me know when you want to interview me…
ok, 3600 views at 3 minutes is 180 hours. Yeah, I can do math. Just not pre-coffee..
Sorry
@Chirs, nice idea. You should be my writer or something. And as far as being an internet celebrity goes… My friend broke it down for me so I wanted to see if you agree with him. He says that you are an internet celebrity if people crowd around you at internet platform parties. If they don’t, but you have done something substantial (like build twitter) then you are just internet famous. By that standard I’m not an internet celebrity because the last party I went to people were not crowded around me.
P.S if you go back and look at my first week of videos you will find well over a quarter million views. That was just a good launch week though and I didn’t have my RSS on the page the first week. Ack! If you can think of any creative marketing ways for me to get the word out about pop17 let me know. (I have a few ideas and would love to hear from you guys).
Creative marketing idea: Just keep being Sarah. It will work. Fine interview style. I felt like I was there! How about a lengthy future Kroosh interview in relaxed situation without distractions in background.
@Bhob, yes I would like to interview Kroosh again. I’ll have to set that up. I like how she said she thinks online celebrities are boring!
well, Sarah, you’re one of my first views now, in the morning.
Regarding marketing, here are some ideas… first, if you “break a story” before anyone else, that will help.
I’m sure you know this, but stay away from the trash - like the love-lives of Internet Stars. Leave that to the trashier (not to *coughVW* mention any names) blogs, and rise above it.
Here are a couple ideas for marketing: 1) keep responding to comments from readers. So far so good. 2) consider transcribing your interviews. That will help people find them using search. 3) cross reference your videos. I saw this on Epic-Fu. At the end of one episode, highlight some other episodes that might be related. Example: On today’s, you could have linked to other SXSW videos, and maybe a few others.
I can give you plenty more ideas if you want. But I feel I’ll bore your other readers.
I do have a scoop you might be interested in… I’ll pass it along shortly in email, so you can do with it what you want.
Hi Chris,
I like all of your ideas. I particularly like the suggestion video part. That could really work. I need to make more time to link to other sites with relevant content.
Great interaction in the comments today! Violet Blue really said where we have to evolve with the tech not just find a way to make it work in our lives ( at least that’s how I understood it :) )
@phoFuki, you can bet I’ll try to have great interaction from here on out, but there will be some days where I slip and don’t comment at all.
In regards to vb, I got that interaction is key.
I really liked what Violet Blue had to say at the end of the video. I’m fans of all the folks featured in this video, and got to meet and hang out with Clarence, who has a lot of interesting things to say about this whole evolving media landscape of ours…
And I got to meet Sarah Meyers! Yay!!!! ;D
What defines an online celebrities or celeblogger?
Is it enough just to be featured in ValleyWag? Or break up with your online partner?
I think most celeblogger are just celebs to their readers.
If you are not into making money online, then John Chow or Shoemoney maybe isn’t that big.
If you aren’t into Social Media, then Pete Cashmore is just a guy with a lot of visitors.
@Steve Wolf, it was so cool to meet you and Zadi! Yay!
@Dennis, it’s such a micro level with the micro celebrities. They are influence people on a small level.
Great show Sarah
Zadi (& Steve), & Violet Blue are great!!
I wish I could have been @SXSW this year.
Me too nimble2!
