There couldn’t be a more perfect time of year to host NewTeeVee Live in San Francisco. This year they had the “break out stars” of 2008 come and speak about their experience in online video. I interviewed Mark Day, Lucas Cruikshank, Rafat Ali, Jay Smooth and Michael Buckley to find the secret to their success. What are you doing to build your brand online?

Leave it to Jay Smooth to keep it real, but I totally agree with “Buck” about social media. We’re all a part of the Gary Vaynerchuk/Seth Godin school of thought on that one.

I agree with Michael. What all these people have in common is being original and that is what people flock to. And What he said about engaging with others and not just dumping content is key to building up fans.

I am going to have to say that I agree with Buck on this one! Also, Rafat had some solid advice there too.

This is some good advice. Thank you so much for posting! Are you going to Youtube live?!

The only thing said here I disagree with is about not getting rich. While YouTube started (and is still dominated) by teenagers horsing around for laughs, it is increasingly being employed with calculated intent my entrepreneurs in internet marketing efforts. A YouTube video is one of the best ways to rank high in a Google search. I know a lady who turns $1K/mo. from 1 video she made promoting an affiliate product. YouTube’s clever content creators could benefit from paying more attention to the marketing savvy. There’s no reason someone who can pull a million views from a video should have trouble paying bills.

Buck seems to be everywhere!!! What the Buck? LOL

AS always great tips in this video :) I totally agree with them !! Another thing that can really help with online Branding is to have a signature style !!! It could be as simple as a slogan or a poping personality that would make U recognizable !!!

It’s going to be live from Mozilla Firefox headquarters.

@ashkan yes, I like how Dave Days always wears a green shirt.

You know what makes you “viral” in my mind, Sarah? Its your big beautiful smile that conveys energy, sincerity, and pure joy in doing what your doing at the moment. I know you’ve heard that before but it’s confirmed in my mind every time I view one of your videos. Doing what you love goes a long way toward ensuring your success.

  13. Sarah November 18th, 2008 at 6:26 pm

    I do love it!

    Sarah:

Just starting out with branding my company, TurboMandala Entertainment, myself, and a new show with my old friend, author/composter/musician Michael Boo, that will be launching in January.

Both Michael and I are building followings on Twitter, using Facebook, our blogs, and visiting sites to build a profile.

To tell the truth, I’m just emulating what folks like yourself, Felicia Day, Michael Buckley, Tim Street, and others who have already have a successful head start down this road have been doing.

One of the many cool things about New Media Content Production is there is a willingness on the folks in the business to exchange information and engage in meaningful dialogs. Which, coming from a Hollywood background, is refreshing.

The best way to make it is to copy what others do and do it just like they do.

Sarah, this video is exactly what you’re talking about. I uploaded it yesterday, which makes the timing perfect.

I agree with everything Michael Buckeley says in this video. To become part of the community is the #1 thing. You can’t just dump content, you have to be part of the movement and share your content with your community, rather than spam it.

Also, Sarah, I think ‘be patient’ is also another important thing often overlooked. It took us all a long time until things started working out.

  18. Sarah November 19th, 2008 at 8:22 pm

Thanks Walt! And thank you for posting the blog about me. Also, thanks for capturing and uploading to Revver. I’m not the type to get upset about those things. I hope you are well. Your friend, Sarah
