Livecasting and Lifecasters

Live video is one of the latest mediums to be embraced online. A variety of live streaming platforms with social networks are propping up a new kind of online voice.
Justin Kan of Justin.tv is one of the first popular lifecasters.
Justine Ezarik aka iJustine became popular on Justin.tv and also in other spheres online for her iPhone bill video.
Chris Pirillo became popular in the live streaming world in part due to his technical understanding of the medium and his willingness to share his findings.
*Breaking News: Interview with YouTube co-founder Steve Chen revealing plans for live video on YouTube this year.
Several live streaming platforms: Mogulus, Justin.TV, Ustream, Blog.tv, Stickam, Yahoo Live, Qik
(Special thanks to Joshua Cohen of Tilzy.tv for the use of his Videocracy footage!)
Know of any other platforms or people using them to do neat things?

Hey silly. You brutally mispelled Justine’s last name. Eek!
Heard about quite a few companies already doing so including live streaming from mobile phone (to mobile, internet and TV!) – companies in Finland, Netherlands, Spain…
Sarah, this is one the best videos you have done in a long time. I think the live streaming platform has a little bit more to go, but as technology advances and the demand rises so will the effectiveness of these programs. I think right now, they are all doing the same thing and it isn’t working. Someone needs to jump a curve, and innovate.
this’ll be great for sensible or wacky video contributors. But I worry that it will get SERIOUSLY abused by the porno industry, Psychopaths and pedo’s to think of just a few.
Let’s hope they can somehow build in safeguards or ‘Happy Slapping’ videos will become ’small fry’ in comparison.
PS. Your presentation skills are developing well Sarah.
Pete.

Cool video, Sarah. Heh, I love watching your lifecast, I remember when you used to roll around in your office chair. I got many laughs from that. I remember when people had to lug everything around too, it’s awesome that you can do it from that tiny phone now!

@Brandice, that was totally a typo. My bad! I fixed the spelling on her name and linked to both of her sites.
I wish I could broadcast live all the time. i totally would.
Great job! Third episode and you are beating those other well established vlogs to the story regarding live video on YouTube. Best of luck.
Hey Sarah,
This is beginning to look quite professional! Nice that you showed one of my fav Livecasters, Sheena Melwani on live.yahoo.com.
When are you going back on live.yahoo.com?
Dick
Sorry to see that Netineo is not among the live streaming platforms mentioned above.
Apparently Netineo does more than other platforms.
Have a look!
Hey Sarah…
Kick ass production, you’ve done some of the best work with Viddler I’ve seen in a while.
Good job on the YouTube exclusive as well.
Will be popping round a lot more.

I hope YouTube include live mobile video streaming in their live casting service. For me, live casting is all about sharing spontaneous moments that can’t be captured by a webcam. Flixwagon.com is a live mobile video platform I’ve been trying out for a while. Their video quality is the highest I found so far.
I didn’t know about Chris Pirillo. The whole live streaming is still a bit new to me. I’ll have to see some of his “shows”. I’m still waiting on my Qik invite.

Hey Dennis, you should check Chris out. He’s one of the most subscribed to channels on YouTube even! Amazing Job Chris if your reading this!
Some day maybe I’ll even put a shoe on my head! (inside joke with lifecasters)
You Tube better hurry up before someone else makes the move to live interaction videos.
Hey Sarah, I read about Pop17 in my TechCrunch feed and I’m so glad I checked it out! I love the highly informative (while short and digestible) vids. I’ve added you on Twitter and will subscribe. Can’t wait to see/hear more soon! :-)
@Becky C please do subscribe to my RSS. I would love that. You can also subscribe to my itunes! Thanks for stopping by. See you Monday!
Hey Sarah everything is looking good. The only thing I see is, the archive page all video auto play at the same time.
Oh man that’s annoying. I’ll fix that soon.

tout le monde sait qu’en terme de qualité de vidéo Youtube n’est pas en avance…
à voir donc mais au passage, Blog-video.TV est LA plateforme francaise, de bonne qualité et avec une communauté vraiment sympa :)
It will be interesting to see how YouTube’s live broadcasting platform compares with the others that are already out there. I’m really looking forward to seeing this.
I’ve been following the live video thing for a while now and have very recently started my own broadcast (almost daily). Much of the current available live content is the same (often boring) stuff; I’m trying to do something different that appeals to a specific niche (and hopefully more). This is still a work in progress, and I still have a lot to do yet with the website and broadcast in general.
I’ve tried several of the popular broadcasting platforms, but so far Justin.tv seems to have the best broadcasting performance and video quality considering the lower bandwidth and bitrates that I am usually limited to.
