Ground Report

Rachel Sterne and I went out to report on people’s stories with the economy. Rachel is the founder and CEO of Ground Report, a place to share stories and participate in citizen journalism, and she frequently submits reports.

Rachel says, “GroundReport.com is a citizen journalism platform that lets people share their stories and earn money based on traffic. Our goal is to democratize the media. We ventured out onto the streets… to ask people for on-the-ground perspectives of the effects of the economy in New York City– and get a personal look at an international issue.”

The concept of Ground Report is another example of why the modern news media is rapidly changing. One only has to look at the drop in newspaper subscriptions and the tabloidization of the news broadcasts coming from MSNBC, FOX and CNN as a desperate attempt to draw in views. Many people today are finding their news on the internet rather than the news media.
Great show Sarah; your content continues keep my attention!!!

    Regarding the economy??
I think those of us who are trying to make money on the internet through the sale and promotion of DIGITAL products must bare a responsibility here.

We all know that there is NO substance to exactly WHAT is being sold. (Often for mega-bucks). Promoting Google ads so we get paid per click is also adding to the mounting crisis.

Humanity needs to be exchanging values; ie; our God-given physical/mental effort for money. At present, the internet is like a giant vortex, usurping money into this black hole where the ‘Big Guns’ of internet marketing lurk.

The internet is a blessing and a curse all at the same time. But I wouldn’t be without it.

we wouldn’t get to see and hear YOU then, would we Sarah??

    Pete.

@Pete Moring, ads are usually one of the first things to get cut back a little bit in any economic depression or recession.
