Hey guys it’s me Rebekah. If you don’t know already, I’m pretty big into fashion. I’m always looking for interesting and unique styles. One of the more eccentric fashion trends, originally from japan, is known as “Lolita”

I’ve never dabbled in Lolita before. I thought that it was just a bold Gothic abundance of weirdom. Girls decked out in puffy baby doll dresses, knee-high socks, bows, bonnets, and crazy platform heeled Mary Janes. In Japan, Lolita girls are everywhere and it has become a street fashion subculture. This extravagant style is migrating, and you can now find young American girls dressed in Lolita.

Let’s go in for ourselves and find out some more about this San Franciscan Lolitas.

With Lolita, the dress code is strict, and the first step involves wearing a frilly petticoat. “Baby the Stars shine bright” in Japantown is the perfect place for it!

Lolita fashion is noted for its over the top child fantasy themes and a pastel palette. I feel like a multilayered ice cream cake!

OkOk, so i’m starting to figure out that there are different kinds of Lolita? What about the simple red and black gothic Lolita outfit?? Then there’s the Gothic Lolita, Elegant Gothic Lolita, or EGL as it’s known by those in the scene. And finally there’s the Deco Loli look. The EGL is this…. Deco Loli is rainbow pastels, heavy makeup, and over-the-top accessories.

So there you have it. What a crazy fashion trend. I don’t know about walking around all day dressed like this, but it certainly has a unique look.

Putting a default on the United States of America’s debt would be the most horrendous move on the Obama Administration’s neck. People all across the nation are suffering from the amount of decreasing jobs.

By trimming 1 trillion dollars in spending will higher the debt ceiling. Debt only matters as a percent of GDP. Once the country’s debt reaches around 100% of the GDP is when the people of America are put into a frightened state. As long as the U.S. continues to pay off the debt we will continue to receive loans. People on the small scale recycle debt in a day to day basis, and that is exactly what the U.S. is doing-recycling out debt with other nations.

I’m such a braggart when it comes to deals! My favorite girlfriend to brag about what I buy with is Anna Anisin. We mostly either talk about having bought something for a discounted price or having a deal that we want to purchase together as part of a group buying deal.

Have you ever noticed how bargain shoppers always like to comment on their deals? Well, we are the epitome of this type of shopper. I always tell Anna first about my fantastic deals. She’s got such a great mind for finance I wouldn’t be surprised if she’s a CFO of a major tech company someday soon.

So many deals, so little time! When Anna and I find ourselves out and about and in need of a good deal, we’re mostly just out of luck. Imagine how cool it would be if you could search only deals near your exact location from your mobile phone. Anna and I just discovered we can do just that because Bing mobile deals – available at m.bing.com on iPhones and Androids – combines location-based services with search. It pinpoints your exact location to serve you up deals from Groupon, LivingSocial, Tippr and more near where you live, work, where you attend conferences, lunches and dinner spots with your friends. Search Deals! And you can team up with your friends to buy dinners, day spa deals, mani pedi deals, etc… by searching first for deals on m.bing.com on the go! I got to make this fun little video where I’m looking for an ice cream deal and am able to get it! Yum yum goodies!

I’m more likely to purchase items when I’m out with my friends like Anna. Anna’s got a great eye for deals online and offline, and not to mention fabulous style! She’s always telling me about the best buys and how to manage my budget. What’s best is we can shop together on the go! We’ve noticed that we seem to be making WAY more purchases when we’re buying on the go! LOL!

When Anna’s not with me, I like to get a second opinion from my other friends. Every once in a while I’ll lifecast from the store where I am shopping and ask my friends to tell me what they like best. Generally, I like to shop with friends, but often times I end up alone because I’m on the go. Thank goodness I always have Bing mobile deals to turn to!

The moment the dates arrive, people scramble to book hotels and plan their schedules for the panels.

This is my first time at SXSW. It is, in one word, overwhelming.

The dense schedule is more then enough to make your mind go into overdrive. Weeks before I was due to come out to Austin, I was revising my schedule, trying to figure out where I could get to.

To be honest, the truth is, you cannot plan for SXSW.

There is just too many amazing networking opportunities that await you in the halls outside the panels. Seriously.

The Austin Convention Center is the main hub for SXSW. Even on a Sunday, this place is packed.

This is what makes this conference/event/festival incredibly unique for me. Other events I have been too simply haven’t been held in venues the size of the Austin Convention Center.

Yet, when we see just how much of an impact Twitter has had on the information stream from conferences, it makes you wonder whether SXSW is worth the time to attend.

I would answer, emphatically, YES!

You cannot recreate the atmosphere generated by the attendees in 140 characters.

Austin as a city is buzzing right now, so many great people walking around.

Plus, if you don’t attend in person, you miss out on the fantastic networking.

I mean, many SXSW attendees aren’t specifically networking with people on Twitter this week. They are making the interpersonal connection count.

I guess, being that I am two days into SXSW I really have so much to learn.

But, if you can manage the investment, I would recommend you check out SXSW!

Lee Unkrich, director of Toy Story 3, recently Tweeted about behind the scenes of the five-time Oscar-nominated movie. He gives a tweet out to Z Corp printer. Pixar used their 3D printing technology to create models of the characters we see in the film. Warren Trezevant was gracious enough to show us around their 3D printing studio. He explains how the 3D prints are the most precise replication of the actual characters. You can’t buy a toy this real!

The Z Corp equipment creates the characters in full color. The 3D printer that made this model uses inkjets very similar to the ones in commercial printers and sprays the ink onto an off white surface that is similar to plaster.

It is very exciting to see the 3D data from those films now being used to create the Disney Pixar zoetrope (hint hint on part 2 of this series). Subscribe for more videos behind the scenes at Pixar.

If not, I’ll bring you up to speed. Last week, video footage from North Alabama’s local news broadcast was uploaded to YouTube and became an overnight sensation. The clip centered around the attempted rape of a young woman and featured an interview with her brother, Antoine Dodson.  Antoine stole the broadcast with his sassy disposition and threats towards the perpetrator which included, “You don’t have to come and confess. We lookin’ fo’ you. We gon’ fine’ you” and “you can run and tell dat homeboy.” The original broadcast has gotten over a million views since being uploaded last week and has spawned numerous parodies and songs, most notability the “Bed Intruder Song” by the Gregory Brothers of the popular Auto-Tune the News series.

Since being uploaded on July 30th, the Bed Intruder Song has received over 6 million views and is one of the most favorite-ed, top-rated and most discussed videos of the month. I’ll be the first to admit that I shed tears of laughter while watching the song. There’s no denying Antoine’s charisma and his attitude, which is unintentionally funny and engaging. Not to mention, the Gregory Brothers song is really catchy! But it’s hard not to feel guilty laughing at a horrible topic such as an attempted rape or the fact that so many people are laughing at Antoine because of his obvious effeminate traits and soundbite-worthy slang.

For better or worse, it now seems that Antoine is trying to cash in on his newfound internet fame and has launched his own YouTube channel (http://www.youtube.com/antoinedodson24) and website ( http://www.antoine-dodson.com) complete with Antoine t-shirts, buttons and key chains. Videos on his channel feature him answering questions from his “fans” and posing for photos and autographs at a local Alabama meet-and-greet session. Apparently not many people are bothered by this as Antoine’s YouTube channel has over 15,000 subscribers and is currently the most subscribed channel this week and the 24th top subscribed channel this month. In all honesty, I expected the Dodson family to be disturbed by the internet adoration, as it deflects attention from his sister’s attempted rape. But instead, Antoine has accepted the fame with open arms and seems to be stretching his 15 minutes for as long as he can. I sincerely wish Antoine and his family the best, and hope the intruder is caught. As for Antoine’s newfound quest for fame, I’m curious to see where it will go and just how long it will last.

More than 350 million people around the world are connected by Facebook. The expansive reach and six degrees of separation evolving ecosystem calls for more than 5,000 friends at a time.

I have about 5,000 friends on facebook and thousands of friend requests. I can’t access the requests because they go back so far in facebook that they are not even visible for me to ignore or accept. Furthermore, when someone else tries to add me they get denied because I have too many friends and too many requests. I want to filter out my requests so that at least I have room for more requests from friends that I can actually accept. Because facebook is poorly set up for super social people like me, it looks like I am rejecting friends when in reality all I want to do is include them. Now if you want to be my friend it takes more than a personal note because it is impossible for people to add me. Instead of the axajy box that says add a pesonal note and request a friend, the person adding me gets a notice stating “sorry, you cannot add any more friends or fan pages without removing some first.”

The only way this person can get on my friends list and access my profile on facebook is to go to google and track down my email and email me. Then I have to log on, remove a friend, and add the requesting friend in their place. This is absurd. Zsofia Tallai, in the video above, has a helpful tip: add your fan page to your relationship status in order for people to at least be able to connect with you through your fan page. Anna Anisin‘s prediction is that we will see Facebook start to charge per friend over 5,000. Finally, Mari Smith, social media guru and facebook expert, has several helpful tips and tricks to managing Facebook friend and fan page requests over the maximum.

Valley Girl, Jesse Draper is a professional American actress, entertainment entrepreneur, producer, writer and Twitterer: @valleygirlshow. Hoping to inspire and educate those who live a life at the office, along with those who are intimidated by “business talk”, she created “The Valley Girl Show” to spark the entrepreneur inside of everyone. She is the answer to all of your business related inquiries and interests! A graduate of UCLA’s School of Theater, Film and Television, she is most well known for her supporting role as Jesse, the nanny, from Nickelodeon’s hit show “The Naked Brother’s Band”.

What was your first concert experience?

The very first concert I went to was the WARP tour which introduced me to the more alternative concertgoers. There was moshing and craziness! I was in high school and Blink 182 was the most memorable band there and the reason we went. I was there with a bunch of my friends. We were at Shoreline Amphitheatre on the grass right on the incline, which was a blast! If you haven’t seen a concert at Shoreline, you are seriously missing out. Shoreline is still my favorite place to see concerts. Nothing competes!

What are you working on right now?

Right now, we are about to release the new season of “The Valley Girl Show”. We have a lot of exciting things happening this season. We have MC Hammer and Le Var Burton, we have Kai Huang of Guitar Hero and more! We are also working with KRON4 and every Thursday during the evening news there will be a Valley Girl Show segment on television, so look out for it!

If you could be a piece of technology, what would you be?

This is a really fun question. If I could be a piece of technology that actually exists it would definitely be a a MacBook Pro or some sort of computer, because the way I see it, if you are a computer, then the internet is essentially…your brain, so you would be brilliant! Can you imagine???

God’s Love We Deliver is similar to Meals on Wheels because it’s a charity that brings the personal experience or love and compassion to people living with HIV/AIDS, cancer or other illness. If you have a friend or family member suffering to live it’s important to remind them of what they are living for. Remind them of things worth living for. Be it the mother, children, accomplishments, family,
relationships, spiritual development, legacy, dignity, learning and or development, they will be reminded of bight side of life.

The Fiesta Agents and I volunteered, this summer, at God’s Love We Deliver in NYC to bring the personal touch to the hand made meals. It’s charities like this that remind our loved ones of what there is to live for.

Owing thanks to their Hollywood lead man and Olympic hero statuses, not to mention the crafty support of some of the best agents in the biz, we can assume with confidence that Christian Bale and Michael Phelps will come out of their recent PR nightmares and subsequent online jokes, parodies and criticisms relatively unscathed. Today DECA, a digital entertainment company, announced that it’s investing in the YouTube sensation Smosh to make original content for the web. The deal will make them an exclusive business partner in marketing and distribution. Anthony Padilla said, “We are extremely excited about joining the DECA family. We love making videos and the feedback from our fans has been amazing. With DECA’s help we look forward to bringing Smosh to even bigger audiences.” How DECA plans to find bigger audiences for the most-subscribed YouTubers ever will be interesting to see.

DECA was founded in 2007 by experienced entertainment and Internet executives who previously held senior roles at Sony Pictures, ABC, and Yahoo! Music. DECA uniquely identifies, funds, markets and distributes web shows. Based in Santa Monica, California, the company is backed by Mayfield, General Catalyst, and Atomico.

In other development news, popular YouTube comedian and celebrity commentator Michael Buckley recently signed a deal with HBO Labs to create online video shows. Joshua Cohen of TilzyTV says Michael is “just mean enough, just funny enough, and with the right dose of you-go-girl” to make it big.

In addition, a web pilot called The Remnants which stars web celeb Ze Frank (with other stars like Justine Bateman and Ernie Hudson) is currently being considered by NBC. It has been described as “a quirky and comedic story of a group of friends who search for answers and survival, upon realizing they are some of society’s last living inhabitants in post-something Los Angeles.”

As we fall deeper into an economic recession, the studios will likely consolidate their spending and turn to the web as a cheaper way to produce and reach audiences who use content to engage end-users.

I sat down with YouTube fame, Caitlin Hill. She is an actress, dancer, video blogger, blogger and is looking to get more involved with live video. I asked Caitlin to explain some of her greatest challenges. She says:

“The challenges that one faces when they are a video blogger is remaining true to themselves. There is so much criticism and when you are also editing yourself you get to see a side of you that you have never seen, and you become highly critical of yourself. You also start to change yourself to fit what the audience likes OR you change yourself to go against what the audience likes. It can shatter confidence and increase self-doubt.

The hardest thing I face now, is just getting back to basics and also just getting off my butt and making the videos I’ve been dreaming about for years. That’s the problem, I’m too lazy. Another thing that is hard is keeping up with it all. The Internet is 24/7, as we all know, and as soon as you close your eyes, your whole digital world can change. I appreciate Ze Frank’s Color War approach, however I’m more fascinated in the relationship and the connections we make online. Ze started the game and everyone joined in to pick a team. Rocketboom founder, Andrew Baron, put up an auction on Ebay for his followers and has since taken the auction down. Both Ze and Andrew have a lot in common. They are creators of popular online shows, have the same birthday, went to the same schools and are currently experimenting with twitter to find the meaning to it. Weird.

At the time Twitter announced closing series A funding with Union Square Ventures, Charles River Ventures, and other angel investors – Andreessen, Costolo, Conway, and Ravikant – they also changed their terminology from “friend” to “follower.” It seems like they made the right move based on the low barrier to entry.

Chris Penn of financial aid podcast is an online community expert who shared his thoughts on what the relationship of a connection is worth and the recent Andrew Baron twitter auction on ebay. Just today, Andrew deleted the auction.

It started at 10am with refreshments, treats and the press. Natali Del Conte of Cnet TV was there.

Technology has changed society throughout history as we find new ways to communicate and exchange information. “People isolate themselves in the middle of crowds within individual bubbles of technology—a development Ms. Antonelli calls Existenzmaximum—or sit alone at computers to tune into communities of like-minded souls or to access information about esoteric topics.” The choice of design was curated for an open source audience.

I did interview three designers about their work and the exhibition that shows the relationship between design, science and innovation. Design and the Elastic Mind has a name that sort of says what it is; everything is there. They have robots to boot! Here are some examples of what you can expect to see there:

Twittervision and Flickrvision by Dave Troy are part of the exhibition. Dave Troy must be proud. He writes on his blog, “It’s pretty exciting; I never suspected my locking myself in a room and coding would lead to this sort of thing!” I like twitter vision and flickrvision because I entertained for hours there. It makes me feel like I’m in outer space looking down on the world, watching different people’s thoughts and seeing what they are doing at the same moment in time.

History Flow by Fernanda Bertini Viégas, Martin Wattenberg and IBM Thomas J. Watson Research Center presents visualizations of the flow of editing that takes place on all Wikipedia entries. Taking advantage of Wikipedia’s free access to the complex layers of every entry’s contributing history, History Flow maps the entire sequence of versions of the same entry, providing a chronicle of a not always harmonious collaborative process. The examples shown in the exhibition refer to the history of a highly controversial entry—abortion—and of a very popular one—chocolate—as of 2003. Each color corresponds to a different contributor. Each vertical line, called a “revision line,” corresponds to the beginning of changed or updated text, while a line’s length indicates the length of the text. The immediate visual reading of this flow can render with relative precision the level of debate and controversy surrounding a topic. A deeper reading using various parameters, such as time, can push the analysis further, into surprising detail.

Babel Blocks, by Constantin Boym and Laurene Leon Boym of Boym Partners Inc., is a collection of wooden figures that represent New York City’s cultural and religious diversity, sending out a message of tolerance and understanding. The first collection is devoted to
New York’s Lower East Side, where the Boyms reside, and each character has a name and a MySpace page.

From their press release: “Web mashups are applications that combine different sources into a single platform, making them one face of collaborative design on the Web. Examples using Google Maps are perhaps the most well known, complete with the familiar red markers—defined as pushpins, upside-down teardrops, or even apostrophes—that people use to tag their maps and share their world, their passions, and their knowledge. In other cases, mashups may be coordinated by public authorities and used to spread practical information about subjects ranging from crime rates to sex offenders’ domiciles. A selection of Google Maps
and other mashups will be seen on monitors in the exhibition.

Over the past several years, with the rise of blogging, social networks, and online dating, there has been proliferation of human self-expression. This has led to the creation of countless online personas. I Want You To Want Me, by Jonathan Harris and Sep Kamvar is an exploration of the search for self and new relationships as expressed in a digital world. Harris and Kamvar search the Internet looking for the most delicate and personal human feelings and behaviors. In this exploration of Web dating, a new project developed for this exhibition, each balloon represents a single person’s dating profile collected from the Internet. Inside each balloon is a video silhouette of one person looking for somebody else. The balloons fly through the sky, and visitors can touch any balloon to open it and see text snippets from that person’s dating profile. Many other commands and degrees of interaction with the interface will allow the viewer to perfect and complete each screen, and each screen is only one of the many possible ways to look at the complexity and delicacy with which people interact online.”

By far the best interview of all the designers was the one I got was “I Want You To Want Me” by Jonathan Harris and Sep Kamvar. It’s a cool art display of people who are looking for dates online. I asked them if the integrated SpeedDate.com as a place to pull information. They said they couldn’t remember where they pulled the information. The only website they could remember is pulling from Craigslist.org. I found this a bit amusing. Overall it’s an intriguing exhibition to tech lovers like me and interesting to the non-technical person. If you can make the MoMa Exhibition I recommend checking this one out.
