Last year Twitter came out of SXSW.

This year Sarah Lacey’s interview with Mark Zuckerberg has everyone talking.

Two other platforms being discussed are SocialThing and FriendFeed.

Other social networks that took storm in 2007 are Facebook, LinkedIn, Myspace, Bebo and YouTube.

  1. I think its a battle between SocialThing and FriendFeed, they are getting a lot of early adopters…the true test if it’ll catch on for the mainstream. Twitter has not yet hit the big time I have to add, only because the Tech Crunch sort of people are only a small fraction of potential users.

  2. Great job, the headlights on your t-shirt really give the illusion you have breasts.

Not sure I agree with “Boring Market”, above. Twitter has about a million users – I’m not sure what it takes to “hit the big time”, but a million of anything is a lot.

Furthermore, it’s the “AP Wire” of the blogosphere. I haven’t seen news travel as fast anywhere. And look at the Lacey-Zukerberg interview as an example of how real-time Twittering can influence crowd behavior!

I admit, I was one of those that didn’t get Twitter, until I saw how fast it spread some recent Tech News. I’ll say the same thing about SocialThing and FriendFeed. They do nothing for me. zip. On the other hand, the right people are talking about them, so they WILL be something to someone – maybe not me.

Sarah, another great show. Question: what’s the timing to get something to be big at SXSW? Do you release mid summer to get the buzz in the following spring? Or do you release the week prior? How’s that happened in the past?

  4. @Chris Twitter came out months before SXSW and started with a local buzz. It was useful at SXSW because everyone used it to tell each other where the parties were.

I was on twitter over a month before SXSW last year. W00t! ftw!

  5. @BoringMarket, It will catch on for sure. One of them will make it.

Twitter is an awesome product.I love it.

  7. Very cool your tee shirt…

  8. Major difficulties with all this networking tools is to manage them. Is any tool aggregate, twitter, Facebook, Linkedin, Myspace, Youtube, Seesmic…. ?

  9. @Arno social thing is pretty good for that.

@I love twitter. What’s your average amount of tweets per day?

  10. Chris says:

Unfortunately, that video is one that you will regret when you are super-famous. Some network will play the beginning over and over, with you saying “hey y’all, I’m back from Taaaxus”.

John Stewart will have a field day with this one.

    Delete or Edit. Fast! ;)

  11. Chris, I think John Stewart has some silly moments of his own. I wouldn’t be ashamed of it Sarah.

  12. it’s my way of being goofy and I think people like that.

  13. Ryan says:

Hey Sarah! At least give me some props for filling you in on Friendfeed.

    Ryan

  14. sarah says:

Hey Ryan! I thought Andrew was the one who told me about FriendFeed first. Were you the one who told me about social thing on twitter? Who was that? I heard about Social Thing on twitter.

Is there something I’m missing here?

  15. @Sarah Meyers, not a lot tweets per day, because a lot of things to do offline. 2 or 3 tweets a day, depending the work flow. I think that quality is more important than quantity.
I was amazing to watch that some tweet friends tweet more thant 2 000 tweets after few months. Amazing
Being online all the day, is it real possible ???

  16. Chris says:

    Sarah,

People like you being goofy. I was just razzin ya.

Hey, I wish I could be goofy in public!

  17. @Arno, yes it is really possible, check out pop17.com/live too!

    @Chris, awesome. :-)

  18. Sarah says:

@Optimus Primus, that’s an awkward comment.

  19. Frederick says:

Hey Sarah your show rocks but the important thing here is that i want a Tripadvisor t-shirt too!!!

Where i can find one? :)

    Cheers from Italy

  20. Ryan says:

    Hey Sarah!

No big deal, but rember I sent you an email asking if you could post updates pop17 on friendfeed. You replied asking what friendfeed is.

Maybe that will clear things up.

    Sincerely,
    Ryan
