  • Operation SOPA

    Operation SOPA

I’m sure most of you have heard about SOPA, or the Stop Online Piracy Act (and the similar PROTECT IP Act, or PIPA). SOPA and PIPA: Know How To Act Now

The bill known as known as The Protect IP Act in the Senate and Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA) in the House, is an Internet protection bill aka censorship legislation that many would appear to be a threatening sequel to last year’s COICA Internet censorship bill. The Stop Online Piracy Now (SOPA) is currently being supported by both houses in Congress after they had a House Judiciary Committee hearing Wednesday, November 23, 2011.

  • 30 Under 30 Interview with Sarah Austin

30 Under 30 Interview with Sarah Austin

    4. Twenty years ago, most people wouldn’t have imagined reading Tweets from the President or receiving discounts at a restaurant after checking in on your smartphone. What will social media enable us to 20 years from now?

S: If any one can predict the future even 5 years from now then I’d like to meet that person. I think there will be a change toward policy restructuring as a result of community organization demanding participatory democracy, human rights, justice, and liberty from oppression. Increased transparency will result from the evolution of government and large organizational entities as entrepreneurs continue to hack the red tape – application by application. Freedom of expression may or may not become something that people support depending on their level of fear of tying their identity to their opinion. As more dictators start to learn about how to use these tools there may be increased infiltration of propaganda, however, wisdom of the crowds will eventually smell them out and dilute their power. I’m optimistic that a new type of participatory democracy will emerge world wide and like to think that peace is more achievable in the future than ever before as a result of the democratization of media.
