Six Feet Under (2001)

This is probably Thomas Newman’s most recognized work, behind his score to The Shawshank Redemption: the theme to HBO’s critically-acclaimed hit series, Six Feet Under. which ran for five seasons beginning in 2001.  Lots of strings and the traditional Newman “quirk” in this theme, hinting at the sometimes-silliness involved in the mortuary business. It went perfectly with the visuals in the opening credits and, indeed, the series entire.
