Sites like YouTube, Ustream, and Justin.tv provide the tools to broadcast video online, however, these sites do not allow one to schedule and display a TV guide for the audience to know when to tune in. Google brings us an updated version of Google Calendar, the ultimate TV guide for web show producers.
On the official Gmail blog, Google announced that they launched some changes that will make event scheduling in Google Calendar easier than ever before. Google Calendar is a solution for web show scheduling for both the audience and the production team.
Internal management between the producer, director, and talent, overlaps in Google Calendar because all their different accounts can grant each other permission to see their calendars. This will help the production manager identify conflicts ahead of time. By simply hovering over the events with your mouse you can see your production teams schedule. Frequent guests on the show can share their calendars too. For Google App users, the new API allows you to integrate Google Calendar in other event scheduling applications so you can access the TV guide any way you want.
My favorite part about the new features launch is that now you can repeat the event. If you are trying to schedule a live show that is reoccurring for a season, you can set the dates the show starts and ends, and how many times it repeats in the week. You can schedule the time and when you make an update to the time you can save changes to just single event or all events. The repeats check box is right next to the title of the event so it’s quick and easy to add the repeats. And did I mention it’s faster than ever before?

Furthermore, Google Calendar allows you to embed the calendar on different web pages. This way, you can show your audience the schedule on your website, other social media sites and social profiles. You have a few options for customization of colors and developers can build upon the open API.
Google calendar is the perfect solution for web show producers to host their TV guides online. It’s a destination the viewers can go to get information on what to expect and for the producers and crew to manage the show production schedule.
